The explanation of the chess pieces

The whites
has the only religious and most important piece in including a pawn
Not only to symbolise the small amount of people in the industry but also how most were males (represented by the king also symbolizing the sexism of the time). The bishops meaning that they were also still in a very religious time
Slavery
The layout is pretty obvious but I only used black pawns to show the fact they were treated as such, expendable tools to be used and controlled
Segregation
I have only white pawns because it was becoming a more popular industry so even the lowest of man could "try" where in comparison the more important black pieces are also thrown away into the jar in the corner deemed as useless
With the order day I have 1 white with the black to show that even now on the present day racism isn't gone hence the 2 white pieces standing away from the 1 with the black pieces

* "Oh, D.W. Griffith influenced all of us. If it weren't for Griffith, we'd probably still be in the infantile phase of motion pictures. He started it all- he invented the close-up and a lot of things nobody had thought of doing before. Griffith was the one who made it an art- but at least he made it something worthwhile." - Page 40
